Ikat- The Magical Weaves Collection

The word ikat is derived from an Indonesian word that means “to tie” or “to bind”.

Ikat refers to a technique, where first the yarns are resist dyed in the bundle form and then woven with such exact precision that it forms the desired pattern on the fabric. This is an incredibly complicated and tricky procedure. The dyer has to dye the yarns with such calculated expertise that it should fall perfectly at the same particular point to make the pattern on the loom. The main characteristic feature of ikat dyeing is the blurry effect in which the pattern is created.

Ikat can broadly be divided into three types- warp ikat, weft ikat, and double ikat. Double ikat is the most difficult form out of the three. Ikat is truly a sustainable fabric and is woven on a handloom. It can be either made with cotton yarn or with silk yarn. We have a diverse collection of ikat dresses at AMAR KOSA in all three types of categories of ikat styles.
